Town of Canandaigua Invites Public Input for the Open Space, Conservation & Scenic Views Master Plan
The Town of Canandaigua is preparing an Open Space, Conservation and Scenic Views Master Plan for the Town. Volunteer members of the Town’s Open Space Team and Comprehensive Plan Implementation Committee (CIC) are guiding the planning effort. Landowners and residents are encouraged to attend a public open house on Wednesday, November 8 at 7:00 pm at the Town Hall, 5440 Route 5 & 20, in the Lower Level Courtroom.
The Open House will feature interactive exhibits and discussion about the natural resources, open space and scenic landscapes in the Town. Participants will be encouraged to share their opinions about these resources and alternative approaches to conservation.
The Town’s planning consultant, LaBella Associates, will present maps of the natural, open space and scenic resources in the Town and review the conservation tools and techniques available to local governments and landowners. Natural resource scientists will discuss the ecological communities found in the Town and how they help to protect water quality and provide habitat for plants and animals. Representatives from the Finger Lakes Land Trust, Ontario County Soil & Water Conservation District, Town of Canandaigua and other organizations will present information about how landowners can be stewards of the natural resources found on their properties. Participants will pick the most scenic views in the Town based on photographs taken from publicly accessible viewpoints throughout the Town.
In addition to the Public Open House, residents are encouraged to complete a public survey which is available online through the Town website: www.townofcanandaigua.org.
A meeting with landowners interested in conservation will be held at 6:30 pm, immediately preceding the Open House.
