The Town Clerk’s Office is pleased to provide the following services to Town residents:

  • Administrator for the Freedom of Information Law - responds to all FOIL requests. To obtain a copy of any documents from the Town Hall, you must complete and submit a FOIL Request Form (Freedom of Information Law) to the Town Clerk's office. Applicable fees vary.   • Maintains official records of adopted ordinances, local laws, oaths of office, etc.
  • Issues NYS licenses and permits to Town residents for the following:
      • Dog Licenses (see below for additional information)
      • Marriage Licenses (see below for additional information)
      • Games of Chance
      • Handicap Parking Permits (see below for additional information)
      • Hunting / Fishing Licenses
  • Issues Town Transfer Station / Recycling permits. Permits for 2014-2015 are now available (see below for additional information)
  • Registrar for birth and death certificates that occur in the Town of Canandaigua
  • Coordinates all Town and general elections.
  • Responsible for Town's records management program
  • Receiver of Taxes and Assessments (see below for additional information)
  • Notary Public Services - please ask for Jean Chrisman.
  • Water Bills - Bills are sent out on a quarterly basis (January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1). You have 30 days to pay the bill without late fees being assessed to your account. Please have the last quarter payment paid no later than October 31 as unpaid balances will then be levied to your Town / County tax bill.
  • Issues Onanda Park Resident and Non-Resident Permit Passes. The season's pass is valid from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Town Resident fee is $35 and Non-Resident fee is $65.

Marriage Licenses

In order for the Town Clerk's Office to issue a Marriage License you must present the following:

  • Both parties must be present;
  • A birth certificate with a raised seal; and
  • A drivers license, or
  • A current passport, or
  • A non-drivers card;
  • All divorce papers and annulment paper(s) if applicable; and
  • Death certificate(s) if applicable
  • Must know your social security number

The fee for a Marriage Licence is $40 and you must obtain the license at least 24 hours in advance of the ceremony. The Marriage License is valid for 60 days.

Please arrive no later than 3:30pm as it takes a minimum of 30 minutes to complete the process.

Dog Licenses

At the age of 4 months a dog is required to be licensed in New York State. To license your dog you must present the following information:

  • A copy of the current rabies certificate; and
  • Verification from a veterinarian that the dog has been spayed or neuteried (if applicable)
  • Licensing fees are as follows:
    Spayed / Neutered --- $14.00
    Un-spayed / Un-neutered --- $22.00
    Lost License Tag --- $3.00
Handicap Parking Permits
Will be issued to Town Residents Only

You must present a NYS DMV Application for a Parking Permit or License Plates for Persons with Severe Disabilities completed and signed by your medical doctor.

You will need to present your NYS drivers license at the time the parking permit is issued.

There is no fee for this permit.

 

Transfer Station & Recycling Center Permits

The 2015-2016 Transfer Station and Recylcing Center permits are now available. Permits are issuded to Town residents only and are free of charge.

You are required to present your vehicle registration with the current address on it to the Town Clerk's Office. A copy of your vehicle registration may also be mailed to the Town Hall for a permit to be mailed to you.

Coupons for mattresses, box springs, carpeting, couches, etc. can be obtained at the Town Clerk Office during office hours or at a machine available at the Transfer Station & Recycling Center during regular dump hours. The coupon machine accepts $1, $10 or $20 bills. Transfer coupons can also be purchased via mail. Mail the Town a check and your coupons will be mailed back to you.

Fee per coupon is $2.00

Operating hours for Town Residents:

  • Wednesday: 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm
  • Saturday and Sunday: 8:00 am to 12:00 pm

Receiver of Taxes and Assessments
  • Town / County tax bills are mailed to property owners on/about December 31 of each year
  • Full payments are accepted during the month of January, February and March
  • Full payments only are accepted at Canandaigua National Bank during the month of January
  • 1st installment payments will be accepted only during the month of January
  • 2nd installment payments are accepted during the months of February and March
  • As of April 1, contact the Ontario County Treasurer's Office at 20 Ontario Street, 2nd Floor or by calling (585) 396-4432 with your tax payment inquiries.
Geneology
  • NYS requirements are followed for genealogical research. Birth records must be on file for at least 75 years, death records for at least 50 years and marriage records for at least 50 years.

  • Genealogy copy fees are established in Public Health Law 4174(3). The basic fee for issuing a genealogy copy, transcript or no record report is $11.00. The fee is made up of two parts which are the search and retrieval fee of $10.00 and the copy fee of $1.00. The basic fee includes a search of up to 3 years. An hourly rate of $10.00 per hour or part of an hour is charged for longer searches.

  • Property Deeds: Contact the Ontario County Clerk's Office at (585) 396-4200 or by visiting them at 20 Ontario Street, 1st Floor, Canandaigua, NY.

  • Court Services: Traffic tickets, etc. - You must contact the Town Court DIRECTLY at (585) 394-9040 as no other office is able to assist you. Their office hours are:
    Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm
    Thursday from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm
