The Town Clerk’s Office is pleased to provide the following services to Town residents:

  • Maintains official records of adopted ordinances, local laws, oaths of office, etc.
  • Issues State licenses and permits to Town residents for the following:
    • Dogs
    • Marriage
    • Games of Chance
    • Handicap Permits
    • Conservation
    • Dump stickers
  • Acts as registrar for birth and death certificates.
  • Coordinates all Town and general elections.
  • Administrator of the Freedom of Information Law.
  • Is responsible for Town's record management program.

The Town Clerk does not have copies of deeds on file.

Comprehensive Plan Update Project


The Town of Canandaigua Town Clerk's Office is now open until 7:00pm every Wednesday. The office hours on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday will continue to be 8:00am to 4:00pm.  The purpose of these extended hours is to provide convenient hours to the residents of the Town. During the extended hours, the Town Clerk's Office will be able to issue new / renew dog licenses, accept water bill payments, issue transfer station permits, and issue hunting / fishing licenses. All questions should be directed to Jean Chrisman, Town Clerk, at 394-1120 ext. 2225 or by email at jchrisman@townofcanandaigua.org.


Please note that taxes can be paid Monday - Friday, 9am - 12pm and 1pm - 4pm beginning January 2, 2014 - March 31, 2014

Comprehensive Plan Update Project

In order to obtain a marriage license you must present:

  • A birth certificate with a raised seal
  • And one of the following:
    • drivers license
    • current passport
    • non-drivers card
  • All divorce papers and/or a death certificate

A dog must be licensed after the age of 4 months. In order to obtain a dog license you must present:

  • Current rabies vaccination certificate
  • Spayed or neutering certificate

2014-2015 Transfer Station & Recycling Center permits are being issued. Please bring in registration with current address on it to Town Hall. A copy of your registration can also be mailed to Town Hall and we will send you your permit.

A coupon machine is available at the recycling center. Transfer coupons can also be purchased by mail at $2.00 a piece. Send in a check and we will mail you the coupons.
