Town of Canandaigua Establishes Trail Planning & Development Working Group

The Town of Canandaigua has established a new Trail Planning & Development Working Group, operating as a subgroup of the Parks & Recreation Committee.

As the Town’s network of recreational trails continues to expand — including hiking routes, multi-use paths, and ADA-accessible pathways — this working group will help guide the long-term vision, connectivity, and accessibility of the Town’s trail system.

The group will serve in an advisory capacity, working closely with the Parks & Recreation Committee and Town staff to provide informed recommendations that support thoughtful planning and responsible growth.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Reviewing and advising on existing and proposed hiking trails and ADA-accessible pathways

  • Assisting with long-range trail system planning and connectivity

  • Supporting the creation, review, and updating of trail maps and public information

  • Providing input on maintenance priorities and accessibility improvements

  • Reviewing potential land acquisitions or easements that may impact the trail network

  • Exploring funding and grant opportunities related to trail development

The Town welcomes residents with interest or experience in trails, outdoor recreation, planning, conservation, engineering, or community development.

Community participation is essential as the Town continues to enhance outdoor recreation opportunities and strengthen connections throughout the community.
