New Pickleball Courts Coming to Outhouse Park
The Town of Canandaigua is excited to announce the addition of two new pickleball courts at Outhouse Park, with construction well underway and completion expected by mid-October.
Pickleball, invented in Washington State in 1965, blends elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. Originally created as a backyard family game, it has grown into the fastest-growing sport in America, with more than 13 million players nationwide and dedicated facilities now appearing in towns and cities across New York State. Its appeal lies in being easy to learn, friendly to all ages and skill levels, and highly social — making it the perfect fit for a community like Canandaigua.
The project is being completed by the Town Highway Department, with support from the Parks & Recreation Department, and will add to the growing list of recreational opportunities available along Outhouse Road.
Supervisor Jared Simpson said the courts reflect the Town’s commitment to recreation and community. “Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, and we’re proud to bring two new courts to Outhouse Park. I especially want to thank our Highway crew — they’ve been working tirelessly on this project while also keeping up with a full slate of road and infrastructure improvements throughout the summer. Their hard work is a big reason we’re able to keep making progress for our residents.”
Highway Superintendent Jim Fletcher praised the effort of his team. “Our Highway Department crew has been working hard to prepare the site and make sure these courts are built to last. From grading to base work, we’re committed to creating quality facilities that residents will be able to enjoy safely for many years to come.”
Director of Parks & Recreation Greg Reynolds added, “These courts are a welcome addition to our parks system. Outhouse Park has long been a destination for baseball, soccer, and trails, and now pickleball adds another way for families and friends to come together. We’re excited to offer drop-in play, lessons, and eventually league opportunities once the courts are open.”
The addition of pickleball courts at Outhouse Park continues the Town’s commitment to enhancing recreation opportunities and investing in facilities that promote healthy, active lifestyles.
