The Town of Canandaigua is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to serve as Director of Development Operations. This vital role will oversee the Town’s Development Office — including Planning, Zoning, and Code Enforcement — and ensure that departmental operations align with the Town’s Comprehensive Plan, strategic initiatives, and community development goals.

Reporting directly to the Town Manager, the Director will supervise staff, coordinate internal workflows, support application and review processes, and deliver exceptional customer service to residents, applicants, and developers. The position requires strong leadership skills, administrative expertise, and a solid understanding of municipal planning, land development, and/or economic development.

Position Highlights:

  • Full-time | Monday–Friday, 40 hours/week with some evening meetings

  • Annual Salary: $95,000–$105,000

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

  • Relevant Master’s degree + 1 year professional and supervisory experience, OR Bachelor’s degree + 2 years professional and supervisory experience in related fields

  • Proven ability to manage people, processes, and departmental operations

  • Strong communication skills and a commitment to public service
