Approximately April to October - 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Thursday
Approximately November to March - 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM Monday through Friday

Transfer and Recycling Facility Hours:
Wednesday 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM
Saturday 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Sunday 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM


The Highway and Water Department:

  Maintains, constructs and reconstructs town and county roads
  Plows snow from town and county roads
  Handles 149 Permits
  Installs Culvert/driveway pipe
  Handles road sign work
  Handles road drainage concerns
  Removes dead deer
  Mows and sweeps roadsides
  Operates transfer facility for refuse for Town residents with permit
  Operates recycling facility for Town Residents with permit
  Handles Town right-of-way brush and tree removal
  Installs and maintains water mains
  Installs and maintains fire hydrants
  Tapping, inspection and meter installation for new water district customers
  Handles seasonal meter removal
  Marks water lines for contractors
  Performs water sampling
  Does water valve/pit maintenance
  Handles water meter relocation
  Observation and maintenance of pump station
  Observation and maintenance of water tank


The Highway and Water Department does not:
  Do meter reading or the water billing. This service is provided by Canandaigua/Farmington Water District.
  County and city road maintenance
  NON Town of Canandaigua residents refuse disposal


The Landfill Transfer & Recycling Station accepts:
  clear glass: jars, pop bottles, clear & Colored Glass needs to be separated and put in the
    appropriate bins.
  colored glass: wine bottles
  mixed papers: junk mail, magazines, school papers, catalogs and phone books
  newspapers: store fliers, "Shoppers Guide" type ads, news print used for packing. If it comes in the paper, it goes     with the paper
  car batteries
  clothes
  used oil
  corrugated cardboard
  plastic No. 1-7
  household garbage in CLEAR trash bage or emptied from open containers Kitchen trash compactor bags     ARE acceptable.
  metal: tin & aluminum cans, aluminum pie pans, caps, lids, appliances
  Cardboard: flattened corrugated cardboard, brown paper bags, brown movers wrap.
  Leaves, brush, Christmas trees, & yard debri.
  Batteries: Car, truck, boat, motorcycle & lawn tractor batteries only.
  Copper
  Radiators


The Landfill Transfer & Recycling Station does NOT accept:
  milk cartons, drink boxes or pizza boxes (due to containing perishable contents).
  construction and demolition debris (can be disposed of at a $2.00 per coupon charge based on a 55-gallon     container purchased ahead of time at the Town Clerk's office)
  Leaves, brush, and yard debris (can be disposed of also in our compost pile behind the facility)
  hazardous waste (propane tanks, paint, fuel, etc.)
  cereal boxes, shirt boxes, poster board, etc.
  window glass, picture frame glass, perfume bottles, drinking glasses, opaque glass, or ceramics.



Hazardous Materials:
Please contact the County's Dept. of Solid Waste Management at (585) 396-4482 for dates and furthure information on disposal of Hazardous Waste.

Permits and Coupons:
Transfer and recycling is available with permit only for Town of Canandaigua Residents. Permits are available at the Town Clerk's office with proof of residency. Registration needed for vehicle using facility.

Coupon Items:
Coupons are available to town residents from the Town Clerk during the hours of 8:00am - 4:00pm Monday through Friday. Coupons are $2.00 each.

1 Coupon= 1 car tire, 1 overstuffed chair
2 Coupons= 1 couch, 1 truck tire

If you have excessive amounts of demolition and construction materials to remove, please refer to your local yellow page listings for sources renting roll-offs.
